For me, my cousin stepped in front of a speeding train.  And, a coworker
shot himself.

I'm not sure about psychological or social intervention.  For my coworker,
it might have helped, but it's possible that his culture made those
options limited (he was Muslim).  For my cousin, probably an intervention
would've been resisted due to embarrassment.  (His mother (my aunt) is a
monster, and probably contributed to it.)
