privacy and age verification

I heard recently that France is on the verge of implementing age verification nationwide. Yet, it slams right into the face of the GDPR. https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/1sm1xb8/comment/ogbkcoh/ makes a good argument why it's impossible to preserve privacy even with Zero-Knowledge Proofs. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/zero-knowledge-full-record-age-verification-infrastructure-xerne makes an even fuller argument about this. As the EFF and ACLU has said over and over again (and I say), we need to get the privacy right first and then work on any options after that.
